Born in Florence, Italy, he became a Mexican citizen in 1942. He majored in architecture at the Universidad Iberoamericana de México, eventually abandoning this profession to totally dedicate himself to art. He studies art in Boston and works in the studio of Mathias Goeritz in Mexico City. Of his work, Agustín Arteaga, the director of Bellas Artes in Mexico, says: “…he gives continuity to Pop with important influences of optical fantasies.” In 1962 Friedeberg creates his famous Hand Chair and is considered an artist immersed in magic and fantasy. His palette is very broad, being equally at ease with painting, sculpture, engraving, objet d’art and furniture. He has participated in many group exhibits and had his first one-person show in 1959, he has since exhibited in Europe and the Americas. His works are displayed in many museums, universities and cultural centers in different countries.
